ACTAS OFF TO GOOD START AT NTC CHALLENGE
The boys kicked off the competition with a physical encounter against Tasmania and played some excellent football creating numerous chances but just couldn’t finish them off and were unable to find a way past the solid Tasmanian defence. Sam Smith was in good form up front for ACTAS whilst the Academy defence was left largely untroubled by the Tasmanian attack as the match ended 0-0.
There was better fortune in front of goal in the second match as the ACTAS team took down the Emerging Jets Game Training Squad 2-1. Thomas Krklec and the industrious Smith were the goalscorers for the Academy in a performance that would have pleased Head Coach pat McCann and watching Capital Football technical Director Warren Grieve.
More important than the results were the style bonus points awarded by the FFA team of assessors which included former Socceroos’ Craig Moore and Paul Okon as well as AIS Technical Director Peter De Roo, AIS Head Coach Tony Vidmar and Young Socceroo’s Coach Aurelio Vidmar.
